Helium is the second element in the periodic table, and is part of Group 0, the noble gases. It has the lowest melting point out of any element, it is different from the other elements in Group 0 because it is the only element that has 2 valence electrons rather than 8.
Helium is used for filling up balloons, as a cooling medium for radioactive reactions, and also a mixture of it and oxygen is used to create an artificial atmosphere for divers and other people who work under pressurised conditions.
